Round 2: The Conservative Blogger Debate - The War On Terror

Turns out, conservatives don't agree on everything. One area of contention is America's handling of the War on Terror, and its effect on our foreign policy.

Today, two conservative bloggers (who happen to be great friends of this blog) will be continuing their head-to-head in what we believe is the first multi-blog, multi-round debate of its kind.

Once again... it's on.

Round 2 of the Conservative Blogger Debate begins now.

Here's our second round question:

A lot of the controversy over the war, particularly in Iraq, stems from the fact that our actions were pre-emptive.

With respect to pre-emptive military action, please explain what you consider an acceptable threshold for American action. For example: Should we wait until an attack has been launched but not yet struck (re: Paul) before acting? Should we act when we have "reasonable suspicion" that another country or entity is actively planning violence against us? Should we act against any state or nation that we know wishes to cause us harm, before they have the opportunity to organize an act of violence against us?

Where do we draw that "line in the sand"?

For the initial response, please see The Classic Liberal. Rebuttal will be from Russ at That's Right. Final response, back to theCL.

Our other moderator is Steve at Motor City Times.

And for assorted commentary and punditry, please check out these other blogs which are partnered in the debate, and will be chiming in as we go along:Wyblog, Republican Redefined, Washington Rebel, Theo Spark, and Present Discontent.

Feel free to comment on any (or better yet, ALL) of these blogs.

The Conservative Blogger Debate

Turns out, conservatives don't agree on everything. One area of contention is America's handling of the War on Terror, and it effect on our foreign policy.

On Sunday, two conservative bloggers (who happen to be great friends of this blog) will be going head-to-head in what we believe will be the first multi-blog, multi-round debate of its kind.

Our debaters will be Russ from That's Right and The-Classic-Liberal.

The moderators will be Steve from Motor City Times, and myself. We will post alternating questions on our own sites (with MCT starting things off for us tomorrow) while linking to replies and follow-ups, as well as linking the running commentary from the other blogs involved.

That's Right and The Classic Liberal will post their responses to the questions, and the follow-ups to one another, on their respective blogs.

And don't miss the commentary and assorted punditry on the debate. Check out Republican Redefined, Present Discontent, Washington Rebel, and Wyblog. If I become aware of others, I'll get them linked for you as well.

The showdown begins tomorrow... fittingly, at high noon.

More Drunkblogging To Come!

Heh. Get ready for some interesting posting at That's Right.

Seems Russ has hooked a gig getting paid to drink (and write about) beer. He says:

A big thanks to the Examiner folk who, let’s face it, really don’t know what they’ve gotten themselves into...

Maybe they don't. Let's not forget, it was Russ who snagged the coveted top-corner link at TheOtherMcCain with his by-now infamous "Because It's Late and I'm Drunk" post - which left me laughing and nodding in agreement. (If you blog, it's worth a read.)

Here's his introductory post at Examiner.com.

Luck to you, Russ. If only we could all get paid to do what we love...

David Brooks - Educated Idiot

I read the NYTimes piece by David Brooks yesterday. You know... the one where he breaks political disagreement down into the "educated class" and the rest of us ignorant, uneducated yahoos who don't know enough to listen to our betters.

Now, I already didn't like this guy. He's conservative like I'm a Siamese twin. (Meaning: Not at all, and only a blind fool would believe otherwise.) I've already addressed his less than stellar article on independent voters, and I was all set to rip into this latest bit of condescending, elitist crap.

I'm not the only one... Seems quite a few bloggers want a piece of Brooks this week. The Other McCain muses "How bad does David Brooks suck?", while Michelle Malkin subtly slams him by saying, "It’s David Brooks who needs to grow up."

But my absolute favorite reaction to Brooks' latest babble comes from Russ at That's Right. He captured my feelings towards Brooks and his verbal vomitus perfectly with this:

"David Brooks is a blithering idiot. Period. Fully aware of sounding like a pompous ass myself, by whatever metric you choose to measure intelligence, I would dust Brooks twice on any topic before breakfast."

Not only that, but I'll go farther. If you put this elitist jerk (or Obama... or most of Congress) in the real world with $10 bucks in his pocket and did the same with me (or most of the "uneducated class" Brooks looks down his nose at) and said "Now go survive!" - at the end of the bitter winter only one of us would be still standing. His glorious education may have equipped him for feeling superior to the rest of us, but I doubt it would serve him in any practical survival sense. Personally, I'll keep my practical skills and common sense, which will be more useful to me in life. And if things ever get too bad, maybe Brooks can figure out how to eat his education.
