Another Pregnant Man...

TMZ has a photo up right now of two pregnant men.

NO THEY DON'T.

Contrary to what you think you see here, these are not pregnant men. Thomas Beatie (left) is a transgender male currently expecting his third child. Scott Moore (right) is another transgender man, expecting his first child.

BOTH of these "men" were born as women, and then had gender reassignment surgery. So why do I have a problem with the description? Because both men retained their female reproductive organs, and that's what they're using to carry and bear children.

Readers of this blog know, I have no issue with the homosexual community. I support gay marriage, a repeal of DADT, and equal treatment for all under the law. I also have no problem (really, no opinion either way) on gender reassignment surgery...

But if you have a functioning uterus that happens to be filled with a growing baby, and you intend to push that baby into the world through a vagina, then you are not a pregnant man. You are a pregnant woman who has modified portions of her anatomy that (clearly) don't change your basic biological makeup.

I'm not bashing these folks. Really. I'm happy for them that they will be bringing children into what seem to be loving families, and I believe children enrich our lives.

But can we please can it with the "pregnant man" crap? You want to impress me with a pregnant man? Have him carry a baby without a uterus, then shove that baby out through his penis. THAT would be worthy of a headline. (And a Percocet.)

ADDED 2/23/11: Can someone come explain to me why the hell this post is getting so much traffic the last three weeks? Curiosity killed the cat, and it's driving the blogger nuts! C'mon... Is there another one out there or something? Enlighten me!

I'd have a more coherent response, but my brain exploded.

I agree. This isn't bigotry it's biology. I like that you refrained from bashing the transsexuals. People should refer to these individuals as pregnant transmen. This is what they are.

it's honestly their choice, many do this because, their other partner cannot have children, therefore, in order for the couple to be a happy family the other partner does what is needed. They are not woman, for trying to be a family. They are males trying to make a family any way possible. Having babies does not necessarily mean you are a woman, you are who you truly feel on the inside. Thank you.

It's kind of weird for, because I don't get the relationship from the beginning... (y Googled the case)in case of Scott he was born as female, so as his couple, and both changes their sex... i don't get that. It's ok if they want to have children and so on but... it wouldn't be the best if they adopt?

It's like if they where in the middle of nowhere... it's not a man but obviously not a woman... so what it?

And when it comes to sexuality I cannot say anything because I'm a lesbian, but I don't get anything of this... I'm gay, but I don´t like this, sorry but true.

Best wishes from south america.

Man, gotta love the whole "I'm not a bigot but ... [insert bigoted comment]". It's pretty bad when even a major news source gets it more right than you ...

hint hint: If someone identifies as a certain gender, THEY ARE THAT CERTAIN GENDER. Biological essentialism is bullshit. And so are you.

The way you say that because these men are pregnant, they are women really annoys me. Is a sterile woman a man because she can't get pregnant? Nope.

So cut the crap about not having an opinion when the whole post served to say these mens identities and gender are invalid.

Flippin big fuckin nasty ass niggas. You mean to tell me this nigga take a dick in his ass just to get pregnat. What God made you is what you should be not what you want to be. If God wanted you to be a woman He would of gave you a vagina.... Its just that simple!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with this article...and to the person who used the sterile women analogy, sterile women don't have penises. These pregnant men have vaginas. So, if you bleed once a month and have to sit down to pee, guess what? YOU'RE A WOMAN

lol@ superman comment.
I'm Santa, Easter bunny, and the tooth fairy but I'm no idiot. I can see the scars where the boobs were removed on the trans-gender male on the left.
To anyone confused like the guy who said if God wanted you to be a woman: READ THE ARTICLE. Your imagination is hilarious but you're way off. The mind may be set on male; however, if they weren't born women they wouldn't be having babies. Lol

That awkward moment when the babies grow up and introduce their friend to the "daddy that carried them in his female womb for nine months."
They call themselves Daddy or mommy? These are women who paid to have their breasts removed, have testosterone shots, then had sex with men to get pregnant? Do they date men or women? I'm not confused a to what sex they are...just which sex they have sex with lol

You can't do that. Knowing a few facts about people you've never even met and piecing them together in a way that makes sense to you, doesn't equal the truth.
You impact other people, you have a voice. Do you really want that voice to tell people that it's okay to disrespect other people's identities?
Let these MEN identify however they want. It's none of your goddamn buisseness anyway.

I looked up two definitions of male. 1)of or denoting the sex that produces small, typically motile gametes, especially spermatozoa, with which a female may be fertilized or inseminated to produce offspring. 2) (of parts of machinery, fittings, etc.) designed to enter, fill, or fit inside a corresponding female part. This woman, no matter how much she dislikes being born female, is still simply a woman choosing to play the part of a male. God made male and female to multiply and replenish the Earth. Two women, nor two men, can't do that without trying to manipulate things on their own. When God joins a man and a woman together, it's a perfect fit. The man is the giver, the woman is the receiver, anatomically, it's just right. Two men joined together is always going to have something left hanging (unless one has surgery to have his penis cut off), and with two women, something will always be left unfilled(unless one goes to the store and buys a fake pens). Doesn't God's way make more sense? From a 60-year-old
